Coding & Innovation Clubs
Where Detroit's future engineers, drone pilots, programmers, and problem-solvers launch their journey into technology.
Don't just learn tech. Build the future.
The CODE313 Coding & Innovation Club (CCIC) is a high-energy, hands-on club for high school scholars in grades 9–12. Scholars don't just learn how to code. They bring their ideas to life through drones, robotics, AI, and interactive technology projects.
CCIC blends coding, engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving into weekly sessions that feel more like a tech lab than a classroom. Scholars work in teams, take on real-world missions, and leave every session having built something.
What scholars do
Every week is hands-on. Scholars rotate through five kinds of experiences that build real, career-ready skills.
Program & pilot drones
Scholars code autonomous flight paths and fly real-world missions like mapping, search-and-rescue, and delivery runs.
Python · DJI SDK · Flight planning
Build & code robots
Teams design, wire, and program robots to complete engineering challenges, learning how sensors, motors, and code work together.
Sensors · Circuits · C++ & block-based logic
Develop games, apps & circuits
From a first playable game to a mobile app that solves a community problem, scholars ship real projects.
Unity · App design · Microcontrollers
Explore AI & emerging tech
Scholars move from using AI to building with it: training simple models, testing AI tools, and talking through the ethics.
Python · Machine learning · AI tools
Team innovation challenges
All year long, teams brainstorm, prototype, test, and pitch their solutions like a real tech startup.
Design thinking · Collaboration · Pitching
Five pathways. Endless missions.
Each club year centers on one high-demand pathway, chosen with its school or sponsor, while scholars still sample all five experiences. Every focus connects to one of CODE313's ten Career & Workforce Pathways.
From "I tried it" to "I can do it."
A CCIC club runs the full school year, building momentum from the first session in the fall to the final showcase in the spring. Weekly sessions fit after school or during the school day.
Launch
Early fall
Scholars meet their teams, set up their tools, and complete their first quick-win builds.
Level up
Late fall
Core coding and engineering skills for the club's pathway focus, through challenges that get tougher as skills grow.
Mission mode
Winter
Teams take on real-world missions and connect with mentors, guest speakers, or field experiences from industry.
Innovate
Spring
Teams design and build an original capstone solution to a challenge they choose.
Showcase
Year end
Scholars present their capstone projects at a family showcase, celebrating everything they built.
Career-ready skills. Real confidence.
One-time activations spark curiosity. Sustained, year-long programming is what moves a student from "I tried it" to "I can do it."
Technical confidence
Scholars write real code, fly real drones, and build real robots, so tech starts feeling like theirs.
Digital literacy
From AI tools to online safety, scholars learn how today's technology works and how to use it responsibly.
Career exposure
Mentors, speakers, and field experiences connect classroom skills to high-demand careers in Michigan.
Teamwork & problem-solving
Team challenges build the collaboration, communication, and grit every employer is looking for.
Creativity & innovation
Scholars learn to spot a problem, imagine a solution, and build it.
A clear next step
Every focus links to a CODE313 Career Pathway, so scholars leave knowing what to learn next.

Every scholar deserves that first launch.
Davontay Delacerda · FAA Part 107 certified at 17
Davontay entered CODE313's Youth Part 107 Drone Program at 17, kept showing up, and passed his FAA Part 107 certification. Today he works as a professional drone pilot. CCIC gives high school scholars across Detroit that same chance: consistent, year-long time with real technology, real mentors, and a team that pushes them to level up.
